There will be an edit button on Twitter soon, the company confirms

Edit button on Twitter. The company says it is working on an edit button so users can change tweets after they are posted. The move follows a Twitter poll by Tesla boss Elon Musk asking his followers if they wanted the feature. People have been calling for an edit button for a long time, but there’s a concern about how it would work. Twitter said they are going to test it in the coming months.

Edit button on Twitter

In the coming months, Twitter will begin testing the feature with Twitter Blue subscribers, said the company said on Tuesday.

Sullivan, the company’s VP of consumer products, said the process of editing has been “the most requested Twitter feature for many years” on Tuesday.

The company has been exploring since last year how to build this feature “safely”.

A Poll conducted by Elon Musk on Twitter

Elon Musk is already keen to see the first major changes to Twitter. Musk has become the company’s largest shareholder, taking a 9.2% stake in the social network.

Elon Musk asked his 80 million followers if they would like to see a button added to the site to edit tweets after they are posted.

The “edit button” has been one of Twitter’s most requested features since the service’s launch in 2006, but its potential use has been criticized for opening up the possibility for users to change the meaning of their posts after they have been shared thousands of times.

In a question and answer session with Wired magazine in 2020, former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey spoke clearly about adding this feature to the platform. “The answer is no.”

Even before Elon Musk joined its board, Twitter was working on an edit button.

It certainly looks like Tesla’s CEO is speeding up the process.

Musk makes real-life decisions based on Twitter polls, despite their notorious unreliability.

Earlier this year, he asked his 80 million followers whether he should sell 10% of his Tesla stock. A poll showed he should sell, and he did.

The chief executive of Twitter has taken Elon Musk’s poll seriously. “The consequences of this poll will be important. Please vote carefully,” Parag Agrawal said.

As a result of the poll, Twitter is likely to change its policy in this area.
