By attracting 10 Kalibr cruise missiles, the decoys tricked Putin into wasting expensive cruise missiles on dummy targets.
To UAVs, which transmit their locations to black sea cruise missile carriers, the wooden decoys look identical to the real thing.

Ukraine is reportedly using wooden mockups of modern U.S. missile systems to get Russia to waste its missiles on them. The replicas have reportedly attracted at least 10 Russian Kalibr cruise missiles, prompting Ukraine to further increase its production of replicas.
According to experts, the Western-supplied missile systems have been instrumental in Ukraine’s success in stopping Russian forces in the eastern Donbass region.
Russia does not disclose information about its stockpile of precision-guided missiles in Ukraine.
The New York Times reported that the Ukrainian military has deployed missile systems on speedboats and trucks to achieve military successes.
