It has the same excellent display, a USB-C port with Thunderbolt, the same battery, the same stereo speakers, the same webcam placement, and the same support for the second-generation Apple Pencil.
The new iPad has the new M2 chip inside instead of the M1 chip from a year and a half ago, giving it a 10% to 15% faster CPU and 30% to 40% faster graphics with the same battery life.
This M2 iPad might finally be able to handle the biggest video or 3D projects you do on the iPad.
Apple’s new iPad can capture ProRes video, but it’s not included in the default camera app. Instead, you’ll need to download a third-party app like FiLMiC Pro for this video studio.
The Pencil Hover feature is pretty cool. It previews what you want to do when you bring the Pencil to within 12 millimeters of the iPad screen, and then you actually do it.
The new iPad Pro is a lot better with the new chip, ProRes video, WiFi 6E, and Hover. Still, in 99% of use cases, normal people won’t be able to tell the difference between an M1 iPad Pro and an M2 iPad Pro.
Apple’s iPad Pro is just the high-end version of the iPad
Apple uses the word “Pro” a lot, and there are two categories of Pro devices. One is the Pro, which is people who make money from a particular product, and the other is an avid user who likes the high-end version.
The iPad is a blurry mix of devices, with many avid users and professionals using the iPad Pro for their workflow. However, the word “Pro” is clearly only used to sell you something and make you feel like you’re getting the best.
If you don’t want to use ProRes video or draw with the Pencil, you can get the same experience for $300 less with an M1.
I’d like to think we’ll get a major iPad Pro update soon, but until then, I’ll continue to use my nearly three-year-old A12Z iPad Pro.
Don’t make a mistake when choosing between the M2 iPad Pro and the M2 MacBook Air
The baseline MacBook air is only 1199$, and the iPad Pro 12.9 with the Magic keyboard is 1399$.
Apple has made many improvements to the iPadOS over the years, and it feels just as nice as the mac.
The keyboard is just as good as my 14-inch Macbook Pro, but the trackpad is smaller and cramping three or four fingers on it doesn’t feel natural.
If you use google docs, you basically have the full functionality as on macs, but if you use pages, you are limited.
If you are using a Sony camera, you probably use the Sony-made app for using your iPhone, iPad or Mac as an external monitor. However, there is a better app called “Monitor +” that has a low latency.
There is only one app that allows complex editing on an iPad – Luma Fusion. It is exclusive to iPhones and iPads and is faster than some MacBooks when exporting the same project.
The closest thing we have to Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator on iPad is Procreate, which is extremely similar to mac apps in terms of functionality. You can work with layers, cut things out, add blur, edit colors, etc.
Apple has added Stage manager, which turns your iPad into a mac. With an external monitor connected and stage manager turned on, you can use your iPad as a mac, but it requires some getting used to.
If you’re a budding YouTuber, the iPad can replace your MacBook. If you spend time and optimize your work, you can even make the iPad better than a MacBook.
ULTIMATE Comparison: M1 vs. M2 iPad Pro 2022!
The new iPad Pro with M2 chip takes performance another step forward, but what all has changed?
The 2022 M2 iPad Pro lineup brings a number of tweaks and changes, but many are quite minor.
Other minor differences
Two more little differences you’ll see with the M2 iPad Pro: a braided USB-C cable and an “iPad Pro” wordmark on the back.
So why should you buy M2 iPad Pro?
The M2 iPad Pro is worth picking up if you’re a pro with workflows that benefit from the M2 chip.
And why should you buy M1 iPad Pro?
When the M1 iPad Pro offers the vast majority of the M2 iPad Pro feature set, picking one up at a discount is probably a popular move.
