Little did you know that this product is not limited to cooking. Baking soda is a versatile ingredient used in many household products and surprisingly has many health benefits. Here are 7 useful uses for baking soda that you wouldn’t even expect. There are many tricks that will surprise you and will be very useful to you, both for your health and for the items in your home.
1. The Hissing Soda Bath
This is not the kind of thing that is required daily. So it may happen that you want to take a relaxing bath after work – and the stock of fizzy accessories has long been exhausted. Take the situation into your own hands in the literal sense of the word.
The recipe is simple and environmentally friendly:
- 300 g of soda,
- 150 g of citric acid,
- 5-10 ml of your favorite essential oil,
- 5 ml of base oil (e.g. olive, coconut, grape),
- food dyes, dried flowers – for decoration.
Pour all dry ingredients into one container, then add oils and dyes to them and mix well. If the mixture does not hold well, spray it with water from the sprayer and quickly mix again. Fill the form with the mixture and let it dry in the air.
2. Make Easy Slime
This is a great way to entertain your child, if he has already managed to get bored on vacation. Look how simple it is!
All you will need is:
- 1 liter of warm water,
- a tube of transparent stationery glue,
- 3-4 teaspoons of soda,
- dye or glitter (optional).
And now details: pour 0.5 liters of warm water into a bowl and add some glue. If you want an opaque slide, sprinkle some dye, and the glitter will make the toy glamorous. Mix all these ingredients.
In a separate dish prepare a soda solution (a little more than half a liter of warm water and 3-4 teaspoons of soda) and pour it into a bowl of water and glue. Thoroughly stir all its contents until it thickens. Your slime is ready!
3. Create a Slate Board
Prepare a comfortable surface of any size (at least a piece of properly shaped plywood, refrigerator door or even an entire wall) and coat it with homemade slate paint.
How to cover the board: mix the black acrylic paint and soda in a ratio of 2 : 1. After painting and drying on this surface, you can paint with crayons.
4. Organize a “volcanic Eruption”.
If you do want to surprise your child with a slime, offer him to witness the most grandiose eruption of a volcano since Eyyafyatlayokudlya! The ingredients are very simple:
- plasticine – depending on the size of your volcano,
- 1 teaspoon of dishwashing detergent,
- 50 ml of table vinegar,
- 1 tablespoon of soda,
- orange food colorant.
The first thing to do is to mold the volcano itself from plasticine. It is important that the vent turns out to be narrower than the inner cavity. The volcano should be airtight everywhere except for the vent hole, so firmly fix the entire structure on a board or table.
And then prepare the lava: mix a spoonful of soda and a teaspoon of dishwashing agent and add a couple drops of orange dye. Pour the resulting mixture gently into the volcano vent. It only remains to add some vinegar, and the eruption will begin!
5. Soda Dough for Creativity
Calm meditative games, for example modeling, will help reduce the degree of emotions from homemade Vesuvius. Become a sculptor and sculpt with soda dough.
Look in the kitchen for:
- 1 glass of soda,
- 0.5 a glass of starch,
- 150 ml of water.
According to the recipe, you need to mix soda and starch, add water, put on a low heat fire and cook, stirring until the mixture will gather in a lump. Let the dough cool down – and you can create modern art!
6. Save on Expensive Tablets for Dishwashing
All ingredients are natural, so the tablets will be not only profitable, but also environmentally friendly.
Their composition is:
- half a cup of salt,
- One third cup of citric acid,
- 2 tablespoons of soda,
- dishwashing agent.
Mix the first three ingredients, add a few drops of dishwashing liquid, stir well again and leave until the mass stops increasing in volume. Stir again, spread out into molds (ice molds for example) and wait until the mixture hardens.
7. Make High Power Super Glue
A mixture of soda and superglue will reliably fix cracks in plastic. It’s easy to make.
By the way, if in the process of working with superglue you managed to glue not only the details, but also your fingers, soda will help clean the glue. Hold the affected skin under water for a couple of minutes, and then gently rub it with soda.
