Taiwan’s defense ministry has said that China’s military exercises have invaded its territory by blocking the country’s sea and airspace as a result of its military exercises.
The move came hours before Nancy Pelosi – the highest level US figure to visit the contested island in 25 years – left the island on Wednesday.
China’s military exercises in Taiwan’s sea and airspace have prompted the country’s defence ministry to say the drills are endangering international shipping lanes, challenging the international order, undermining the status quo in the Taiwan Strait and endangering the area.
Pelosi said the US delegation came to Taiwan to show that it was committed to Taiwan. She said new US legislation offered greater opportunity for US-Taiwan economic cooperation.
